No matter what the situation, courts are very hard with adults and children in sexual misconduct. And that is what it is called..I am not saying that sex with someone that young doesn't happen: But it is usually with another contemporary. In other words the 14-year-old seeks out another 14-year-old or someone closer to his or her age. But what you describe is explosive...and many a man has done time in a State Hospital because of involving himself in such an affair. The fact that the child (and I will call him a child) was willing cuts no ice. The word for here is...stay clear and forget it.

Dear Tom:

Some of my friends have joined the service, and I am thinking about that too. I understand that in the service, it's okay to be gay. New civil service regulations state that being gay is not a disqualifying factor for employment.

Dear Helen:

Helen U.

There has been no change in military regulations: Homesexuality is still cause for administrative discharge. That means an undersirable discharge which will disqualify a person for some VA benefits. At the moment, your best avenue is to avoid service, if you intend being upfront with your gayness. If you are in the service, and want to tell them you are gay: You are in for trouble and certain discharge. If you are out, and want in and you intend telling them you're gay: You will be automatically "not fit." Some governmental agencies (nonmilitary) have relaxed their ban on gays...but they are few, and I doubt if a change is coming to "legalize" gays wanting to serve on a federal level.

Dear Tom:

I hear that if the service finds out you're gay, they give you a dishonorable discharge. Is that true? Henry B.

Dear Henry:

Let's get the facts straight. If you are in the service, and authorities catch on that you are gay... they will have an investigation and then you will be recommended for an administrative discharge. This is usually a Undersirable Discharge, or, in rare cases, a General Discharge under Honorable Conditions. Either way, you may have trouble with VA, (Later, after they are out, some gays appeal the discharge and have it upgraded.) If you are . discharged as a result of criminal charges: Sex with a minor, sex in public, or someone brings charges against you involving homosexuality, then you will be
